Baking Quick Tip: Yeast

If you start baking all your own bread, either learn to make sourdough with us or buy yeast in bulk packaging. Your wallet will thank you.

Usually, the biggest size I can find in any local grocery is the little jar. While by far far far better priced than the little envelopes, it is still too costly. Grab the yellow pages and look for a restaurant or bakery supply. Call ’em up and ask if the carry the 2 pound bag. That way you save gas plus wear and tear on the car just in case they don’t.  Compare the prices of those within reasonable distance. Next time your in that area, buy it.

When you get the yeast home, remove some and seal the rest in an airtight container and store in your freezer.

Remember to adjust about 50 cents wear, tear and gas for every single mile you drive.
